School District 61’s Island Ukuleles Ensemble has been entertaining and having fun with audiences of all ages for fourty-four years with a diverse vocal and instrumental repertoire that ranges from traditional Hawaiian style music to jazz, swing, classical pop and rock music.

Under the dynamic direction of music educators and leaders, Tina Horwood, Matthew Martin, and Melissa McKnight, this group of auditioned 12 to 18 year-old students come from 14 different middle and high schools in our community. They are an exceptional group of musicians and truly represent the good in young people and the best in our organization. They are talented performers and community contributors, and they love to entertain at home and abroad, performing for student and senior groups, and selected events.

In addition to doing local school tours which introduces this versatile instrument to thousands of young children each year, our ensemble also undertakes an annual Concert Tour. Last year, the Island Ukuleles A Group had the privilege of travelling to our favorite concert tour destination Hawaii, with a program of ukulele music and history, and insights into life in Canada. In return, the members learned more about the music, culture and people of Hawaii and Polynesia! The group is thrilled to be going on a road trip in May to experience a Coastal Concert Tour to California. We are particularly excited to once again stay at All Saints Episcopal Church. We very much enjoyed staying here in our last tour in 2017.

Over the years, the group has played in and toured Panama, Nova Scotia, California, Disneyland, Universal Studios, San Francisco, Hawaii, Cuba, Japan, Seattle, Portland, Calgary and the Rocky Mountains …and even by request, at 30,000 feet for the passengers on a flight home from Hawaii!

Island Ukuleles looks forward to performing at the All Saints Episcopal Church. No tickets required. A freewill offering will be collected and proceeds will be split between All Saints and Island Ukuleles.
