Celebration of Life – The Rev. Dr. Katherine L. Ward
Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at 3:00PM at Grace Cathedral, 1100 California Street, San Francisco, CA 94108.

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of the Rev. Dr. Katherine L. Ward.  An educator, musician, religious leader, and community activist, Rev. Ward dedicated over 55 years of committed service to the City of Oakland and the Bay Area.

Rev. Ward was a teacher, counselor, principal and district administrator in the Oakland Public Schools for 34 years.  Upon her retirement, she entered Church Divinity School of the Pacific and was ordained as an Episcopal Priest in 1995.  She subsequently served as Rector of St. Augustine Episcopal Church and later as clergy to Our Saviour, St. Anselm’s, and St. Stephens Episcopal Churches and Chaplin at San Francisco State University.  She also served as a minister at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Most recently, she was Assisting Priest at All Saints Episcopal Church.

Her involvement in the community included the Oakland Symphony Advisory Board, President of Berkeley Alumnae and Oakland East Bay Alumnae Chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Marcus Foster Education Institute Board of Directors, and leadership roles in the Union of Black Episcopalians.  Her dynamic commitment to service and her unwavering support of youth were the hallmarks of her life.

The Celebration of Life for the Rev. Dr. Katherine L. Ward will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at 3:00PM at Grace Cathedral, 1100 California Street, San Francisco, CA 94108. Please wear something red, Katherine’s favorite color, in her memory.

The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Omega Omega Ritualistic Service will take place on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at 11:00AM at All Saints Episcopal Parish, 911 Dowling Blvd., San Leandro, CA 94577.   The Celtic Mass and Inurnment will Immediately follow this service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Rev. Ward’s memory to All Saints Episcopal Church.
