Christmas Gifts: Unwrapping Christmas Carols Old and New
Three Sundays: December 01, 08, 15
12:15pm to 1:30pm
with Dr. John Prescott
In this series, we will explore the rich, fascinating, poignant and delightful history of Christmas carols over the past 1,000 years. We will learn about the festival of Christmas as it changed and developed as both a religious and cultural phenomenon. We will explore the surprising origins of familiar carols. We will learn how familiar words were set to less familiar music. We will mine the riches of Christmas music from England, France, Germany, Latin America, and the US. We will also take a fun excursion into the world of humorous treatments of music of the season. No formal musical training is necessary. Come, prepare for the birth if Christ with a musical celebration.

Join this Advent group as we look at the practice of peace in a season that can be filled with activity and joy, but also excess and stress. And how do we face holidays with family when politics and civic understandings divide us?
Each week we will explore scripture and meditations and discuss the spiritual practices that help us develop peace as a practice in our lives. To follow along in this season please download the book here by placing it in the checkout and “buying” it for $0. A printed version can also be ordered at this site for $1.
Here is what Living Compass says about this program:
This devotional focuses on being instruments of peace in a world that so deeply longs for it. What is our call as people of faith to not just experience the peace that passes understanding, but to be bearers of that peace in our communities?
This study is led by Amy Cook, diocesan Canon for Faith Formation. All are welcome.
